Obtained the second Technical Operational Certification in collaboration with several Armed Forces Entities and Italian and foreign companies. Three months of intense software integration, testing and ground and flight experimentation led the Eurofighter aircraft to a new avionics configuration, named PSC3.31 ITA-MOD02, subject to a Technical Operational Certification (CTO).
In particular, with this configuration, a series of innovative features of certain avionics subsystems were introduced on Tranche 1 (T1) aircraft, to improve the reliability and effectiveness of systems and sensors.
A new version of the software has also been introduced, which significantly improves the Infra Red Search & Track (IRST) capabilities and which the Italian aircrafts have been the first to fly with to date.
The activities were entrusted to the staff of the Software Management Group (GGS) and the 311th Flight Group of the Experimental Flight Department, which took over the management of all the phases of the ambitious project that included the study, verification and validation both on the ground and in flight, and finally the qualification of the new avionics software packages.
The new configuration was also equipped with an innovative set of data mission products, produced for the first time at the national level, to improve the self-protection capabilities of the weapon system in complex operational scenarios.
The operational, maintenance and technical support departments, directly involved in the Eurofighter program, also took part in the work.
This further result, following the so-called ITA-MOD01 modification, also produced by RSV, brings Italy to confirm itself as the second country, after the United Kingdom, to certify, through an autonomous procedure of the Armed Forces, an improvement in the configuration of the onboard software of the Eurofighter aircraft.
