The ceremony was presided over by Colonel Gianluca Ercolani, Commander of the Experimental Flight Department. In his farewell speech, the outgoing GT Commander highlighted that with this ceremony another exciting but at the same time demanding chapter of his career at the RSV comes to an end. Addressing the GT personnel, he reiterated that they should always be proud and proud of the work they do every day, which always results in new capabilities for the Armed Forces.
The outgoing GT Commander, after a long period at the RSV, is about to leave it for an important assignment abroad. The incoming Commander has thanked the RSV Commander for the esteem and trust shown in him, guaranteeing his absolute and unconditional support so that the Group can pursue the set goals, in concert and in harmony with the other components of the Department. He therefore expressed his satisfaction with the staff of the GGS, of whom he simultaneously left the Command, recognizing them with unquestionable competence, commendable professionalism and the highest value. The new Commander of the GGS, in turn, taking office with great enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility, thanked the Commander of the RSV for the trust he had shown him, assuring him of his unconditional support and, to the men and women of the Group, his commitment to ensuring the best conditions so that they can work in serenity and seek the stimuli to always find renewed enthusiasm. Colonel Ercolani, at the conclusion of the ceremony, highlighted that today’s event represents a moment of significant changes affecting the engineering component of the GGS, this engine of unquestionable excellence from which the strong technological connotation of the Armed Forces draws the right vigor. Colonel Ercolani, therefore, congratulated the outgoing Group Commanders on the work carried out so far, wishing the incoming ones to continue in the perspective of continuous improvement, along the lines of what their predecessors had excellently done.
The Technical Group carries out studies, research and experimentation on aircraft, on-board systems, armament and aeronautical materials, with the primary aim of identifying the criteria for their use. It also deals with the design and development of test instrumentation and carries out development activities for modifications to aeronautical weapon systems, supported by the design and construction of prototype installations. The Software Management Group (GGS) is the point of reference for the solution of all problems concerning aircraft software. In this sector, the GGS provides support to the Operational Departments by collaborating with industry in the development and integration of new systems, where, in addition to analysing the requirements and assessing their impact from a technical point of view, it actively participates with its staff throughout all phases of the software development cycle.
This ground development activity is a precursor to the flight tests, carried out in collaboration with the other RSV Groups, necessary for the final evaluation of the software installed on the aircraft. The Space Systems Group carries out studies, research and experimentation on aerospace remote sensing and telecommunications systems. It provides and contributes to the conduct of studies in the field of aerospace systems of interest to the Armed Forces and provides specialist advice in the field. It also has the task of supporting the operational testing and evaluation activities of the Department when related to space systems of remote sensing, telecommunications and satellite navigation.
To carry out its activities, the Group uses modern commercial software for simulation and performance analysis tools for sensors.
