On Thursday 12th May the Italian Air Force's new aircraft successfully operated at the Emirati airport, after transiting through Al Maktoum. The upcoming deployment of the KC-767 in passenger, cargo and combi configurations will guarantee greater flexibility to the joint logistics flow for the Afghan and Iraqi operational theatres, in which the Air Task Force plays the role of a ‘hinge unit’. In fact, for ten years the unit has seamlessly ensured the connection between strategic movements from the homeland and tactical ones towards the Theatre, whilst also guaranteeing a high-readiness aero-medical evacuation capability for the sick and wounded (STRATEVAC).
This is a unique longevity that crowns the joint dimension of its organisation and of the Forward Support Base concept, which will have the KC767 as an element to reinforce the positioning of personnel and materials at the TFA for subsequent deployment to the Theatre via the assigned C-130J aircraft.
