Prefect Dr Gabrielli visited the Air Force Detachment that hosts Civil Protection volunteers. The service will be carried out by the Apulia Region, in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna Regions, as part of the wildfire prevention and firefighting campaign. The Commander of the 32nd Wing, Colonel Michele Oballa, upon whom the Air Force Detachment depends, underlined in his speech the Armed Force's commitment to providing maximum availability for all initiatives aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the territory and the safety of the population. In particular, thanks to the support provided by the personnel of the Detachment, led by the Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Di Paola, the right conditions were created to exploit the particular central location of the Base within the Umbra Forest, maximising the intervention potential of the men and vehicles engaged in firefighting activities. Prefect Gabrielli, in turn, underlined the qualitative leap made by the prevention and emergency response system thanks to the collaboration of different Administrations, as a constructive example of cooperation that enhances unity of purpose in the national context in addressing the peculiar issues concerning the safeguarding of a natural heritage of inestimable value.
As part of this activity, a summer camp for young people was also set up at the Air Force Detachment, promoted by the National Firefighters Association, to raise awareness among the younger generation regarding the values of environmental protection. During the visit, the young students were able to meet the authorities in attendance, who expressed their sincere appreciation for the dedication and enthusiasm shown by all those involved in the initiative.
