On Tuesday 10 May, the Hon. La Russa, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, was welcomed upon arrival by Gen. S.A. Tosi and Col. Gabetta. After receiving an update on the situation and the assets involved in the NATO operation, the Minister met with a delegation from the Flight Groups and visited the aircraft deployed, F-16s, Eurofighters, and Tornado IDS/ECRs, which the Air Force is currently using in operations. Speaking to the press at the end of the visit, the Minister of Defence reiterated that Italy is not participating in bombings, even shared ones, in cities. “Our objective,’ the Minister added, ”is to defend unarmed citizens, which is why we have identified a way to deploy our bombers that does not include participation in missions with objectives within Libyan cities.".
