The “evaluators” Team of the Support Service of the Logistics Command verified the effectiveness, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the activities carried out by the Novara Department. The purpose of the visit, as an “internal control” action, was to verify the effectiveness, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the activities carried out by the Department in relation to the objectives set, identifying any interventions and corrective actions.
The Team, composed of 3 experts in the field and led by Colonel Leonardo Pinzino, Head of the 1st Office of the 1st Support Service Department, was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Francesco De Simone, Commander of the 1st GRS, who, during a briefing, outlined the organization, institutional tasks and the objectives achieved by the Department, before introducing the specific sector-specific sheets subject to the verification.
In particular, various and complex customs issues related to the international movement of materials for the Air Force for the support of Operations Outside National Borders (OFCN) and for training events held abroad were examined.
Finally, a specific in-depth study was dedicated to the unique role of the 1st GRS as a “Transhipment Depot” within the so-called “EF2000 and Tornado Transport Network” system, which enables the movement of components, materials and equipment from and to Great Britain, Germany and Spain for the weapon systems of the Tornado and Eurofighter aircraft.
The introductory visit concluded with the intervention of Brigadier General Giuseppe Li Causi, Head of the Support Services, who, after examining the Agency’s infrastructure, attended the de-briefing by Colonel Pinzino regarding the outcome of the Team’s work.
Upon signing the Honor Roll, General Li Causi expressed his appreciation for the objectives achieved by the Agency and the commitment shown by the 1st GRS in favor of the operational activities of the Air Force. Subsequently, Lieutenant Colonel De Simone presented the Crest and the Departmental Badge to the Chief of Service.
The 1st GRS is part of the Support Services system of the Logistics Command, directly subordinate to the Fiumicino Technical Supply Center, with responsibilities for receiving, shipping, distributing, and clearing customs of military material and programs acquired abroad. Since the 1990s, the British Royal Air Force, the German Luftwaffe, and the Spanish Air Force have operated representations there, established following the introduction of the Tornado Weapon System and the launch of the Eurofighter program.
