The preparatory activity for operators of micro and mini Remotely Piloted Aircraft was held at the Centre of Excellence for Remotely Piloted Aircraft in Amendola. In addition to addressing purely technical issues, the module delves into some notions relating to: air navigation law, air traffic control procedures, and Flight Safety culture, with particular attention to Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Operational Risk Management (ORM) aspects.
Some of the UAVs currently in service with the Armed Forces were also demonstrated live, such as the Strix-C of the Air Force and the Raven B and Sixton A of the Italian Army, with personnel from the Units that operate these systems in attendance.
With the acquisition of the “Unmanned Air System (UAS) Battle Lab” simulators within the year, the Department will expand its training capacity, which since June 2010 has seen the participation of 179 joint service personnel.
In addition to this type of course, the Amendola Centre of Excellence also offers training and indoctrination opportunities for personnel designated for the use of UAV sensors or to operate with higher-class systems, as well as for personnel intended to hold particular positions within O.F.C.N. where knowledge of UAV-related topics is required.
In this optical discipline, the activities of the RP Centre of Excellence are aimed, in addition to military personnel of the Armed Forces, also at personnel of the Armed State Corps and other Departments outside the Defence Administration.
