The students of the Military Air Force School in Florence participated in the presentation of the “Bel San Giovanni” award at Palazzo Vecchio
The award, now in its 22nd edition and established by the Society of St. John the Baptist in 1796, is awarded annually to Florentine personalities who have distinguished themselves most in the fields of art and culture by combining spiritual elevation with material achievement.
The presentation of the awards, which this year were presented to Orchestra Director Bruno Bartoletti, painter Enzo Faraoni and Don Enzo Rossi, was introduced by the Mayor Matteo Renzi.
“The San Giovanni – said Renzi – It has a very important task because it invites us to confront what we are, what we were, and what we want to become. But above all, with the strength of its history, it reminds us that we must always fight against the risk of anonymity and help Florence maintain its global role.”. A delegation and the Coro of the School of Military Aeronautics participated in the event. The latter, in particular, introduced the event by performing “Il Canto degli Italiani” by Mameli, the National Anthem since 1946, and “La Leggenda del Piave”, the National Anthem from 1943 to 1946.
The Commander of the Military School, Colonel Claudio Icardi, spoke to thank the organizers of the event, emphasizing the importance of the connection between the city of Florence and the Air Force and expressing great satisfaction with the commitment shown by the students, whose performance was unanimously appreciated.
