Due Eurofighter hanno scortato il velivolo civile con sospetto bagaglio a bordo I due caccia, in prontezza a terra per il servizio di difesa dello spazio aereo nazionale, hanno raggiunto il velivolo civile dopo pochissimi minuti, scortandolo – come previsto dalle procedure di sicurezza nazionale – sull’aeroporto di Fiumicino, per le verifiche del caso. L’ordine di decollo è partito dal NATO Combined Air Operation Center di Torrejon, in Spagna, ed è stato poi gestito dal Comando Operazioni Aeree di Poggio Renatico (Ferrara) in coordinamento con i centri di controllo radar interessati sul territorio nazionale. L’Aeronautica Militare assicura, 24 ore su 24, 365 giorni all’anno, la sorveglianza e la difesa dello spazio aereo nazionale attraverso una struttura di sorveglianza radar e caccia intercettori pronti a decollare in pochissimi minuti dalle basi aeree di Grosseto (4° Stormo), Gioia del Colle (36° Stormo) e Trapani (37° Stormo).
