Military and Civil Health meet at the “F.Cesari” Airport in Galatina
The protocol strengthens a collaboration process that began in 2008 and aims to improve and increase the operational training of military personnel and to expand the areas of cooperation between the two organizations involved.
According to the content of the agreement, the ASL of Lecce will organize training courses aimed at making the military personnel of the Base aware of the operational procedures of the emergency call center and the intervention procedures of the “118 service” teams, as well as specific courses on non-hospital health emergencies. Furthermore, the healthcare workers of the 61st Air Wing will be able to assist, as observers, the same teams of the “118 service”.
Appreciation words were expressed by the General Director of the A.S.L., Dr. Valdo Mellone. For the Commander of the 61st Wing, Col. Sergio Cavuoti, “The initiative allows us to train our paramedical staff according to modern standards, tested and refined on a daily basis. This enables a significant increase in the response capabilities in emergency situations, and allows individuals to accumulate a valuable wealth of experience that they would hardly be able to develop within the ordinary activities of an Airport, but which, when needed, can prove vital in the event of certain emergencies. Furthermore, it represents a first step towards integrating the Department’s logistics activities within the network of resources available throughout the territory, implementing the effective integration of military healthcare within the system for managing major emergencies and standardizing, on the ground, the procedures for healthcare intervention in the event that civilian and military resources are called upon to operate jointly in the territory.”.
The project was developed by Dr. Maurizio Scardia and Dr. Marta Ruggeri for the “118 service”, and by Lt. Col. Medical Officer Davide Marra as the Head of the Corps Infirmary of the 61st Air Wing.
