Thursday 16 June in Pozzuoli, a study day on themes relating to regulations, projects, inspections and certifications concerning composite systems. During the study day, the complex seismic retrofitting carried out on the student refectory building of the Air Force Academy was presented in detail, highlighting the validity of the initial project which was completed in extremely short times with sustainable costs. Subsequently, Professor Manfredi, who, among other roles, is the coordinator of the retrofitting interventions for all school buildings following the L'Aquila earthquake and coordinator of full-scale experiments conducted at European level in the field of composite systems applications, illustrated some direct national and international experiences in his presentation, highlighting the validity of retrofitting interventions with FRP (fibre-reinforced polymer composite materials) which increase the ductility of the structural complex without significantly altering its overall structural resistance. During the day, experiments on the durability of composite materials were also discussed. These are materials with very high performance, also widely used in the aerospace field, whose durability has now been proven both experimentally through laboratory tests and empirically on structures retrofitted with FRP.
The Air Force's Engineering Departments, integrated into the Services of the Air Force Logistic Command's Infrastructure Service and located in Milan, Ciampino, and Bari Palese, have under their command the Detached Technical Infrastructure Services (STDI) located throughout the national territory. The mission of the STDI is to ensure the local function of the infrastructure sector as an extension of the Air Force's Engineering Departments into the territory for the design and execution of works necessary to ensure the availability and efficiency of the infrastructure used by the Air Force, as well as for activities in the territory in support of technical-asset planning and design.
