The 70th Wing of Latina was involved in flight crew recovery operations at Foce Verde-Latina. The exercise, in accordance with planned training programmes, safely simulated the recovery of crews who, in the event of a forced landing, might find themselves in an aquatic environment for extended periods and in hostile territory. The servicemen, dropped into the sea by a boat from the Fire Brigade's Aquatic Unit of Rio Martino-Latina, were subsequently recovered and saved by an HH-3F Pelican helicopter from the 85th CSAR (Combat Search And Rescue) Centre of Pratica di Mare, which is part of the 15th CSAR Wing of Cervia (Ra), all in coordination with the Port Authority of Anzio. The recovery operations, organised and conducted by the 70th Wing with the support of the 4th Technical Maintenance Department (RTM) of Borgo Piave (Lt), were watched by hundreds of sunbathers who, at the end of the exercise, showed their appreciation for the high level of professionalism of the departments involved with a long round of applause. For fifty years, the Latina Flying School has been training future pilots for the Italian Air Force, other Armed Forces, State Armed Corps, and some foreign countries.
