The exercise of the EC-725 ‘Super-Cougar’ (Caracal) aircraft with the 46th Air Brigade took place from November 3 to 11. The first flight sorties were carried out by instructors pilots from the CAE (Crew Training Center) to acquire operational capability, while the subsequent ones were used to train pilots and flight crew members of the 2nd and 50th Flight Group. Thanks to the technical characteristics of the KC-130J, such as the aircraft’s tanker capabilities, obtained through the installation of special pod assemblies and related baskets, the aircraft proves to be an excellent tactical refuelling aircraft with the ability to operate even at night, equipped with NVG (Night Vision Goggle) goggles and equipped with self-protection systems. The exercise highlighted the high degree of interoperability achieved by the Brigade’s aircraft with aircraft from other NATO countries. The cooperation activities these days with aircraft and crews of foreign Armed Forces, add to the already extensive range of missions carried out by the 46th Air Brigade, such as missions outside national borders, emergency medical transport, air medical evacuation, the transport of materials, personnel and equipment worldwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
