Air Force General Gabriele Salvestroni visited Fiumicino as part of his familiarization visits to the entities of the Logistics Command
Colonel Cosimo Lospinoso, Commander of the CTR, during the introductory briefing, explained to General Salvestroni the increasingly important role that the Department is assuming, also in terms of continuous optimization of human and financial resources, highlighting the degree of efficiency of the Center, an Inter-Force Military Force Body, which is increasingly becoming a cornerstone for the logistics support of the Air Force.
Following this, Lieutenant Colonel Domenico Ruggieri, Commander of the 2nd LTC, highlighted the peculiarities of the Fiumicino Laboratory, with particular reference to environmental controls, the flagship of the Department, and checks on the quality of the chemicals used on the aircraft. The Logistics Commander was then accompanied on the visit to the infrastructures of the two entities, focusing on the new infrastructure necessary to house the new vehicles for the Armed Forces (depot functions) and those to be deployed at the Departments for special needs (functions of the National Pool).
At the 2nd LTC, General Salvestroni was able to witness the efficiency of the machinery and equipment of the laboratories where, among other things, tests are carried out on the oxygen used in aircraft and on the effectiveness of the oils used in the lubrication of aeronautical mechanisms. The visit, finally, after the traditional exchange of Crests and the signing of the Honor Roll, allowed General Salvestroni to meet the staff of the institutions based in Fiumicino, to whom he expressed his appreciation for the extremely high level of professionalism and competence, highlighting “How extremely important it is in this particular historical context for everyone to be involved in the life of their own organization by uniting as a true team capable of improving results with a spirit of sacrifice and ability; both the CTR and the 2nd LTC have demonstrated that they are able to be solid points of reference for the Air Force and, in some cases – concluded the General – also for other institutions”. The Technical Supplies Center, in addition to managing thePool National vehicle and automotive materials, ensuring the acquisition of automotive lubricants, aviation oxygen and related chemical-physical controls, fire-fighting materials, CBRN and filmographic materials, guaranteeing technical, logistical and customs assistance to the Armed Forces Entities. Furthermore, it administers and coordinates the institutional activities of six subordinate departments: the 1st G.R.S. of Novara, the 2nd and 3rd Vehicle Maintenance Groups of Forlì and Bari Mungivacca, the 64th and 65th Territorial Depots of Porto S. Stefano and Taranto, and the POL Network Command of Parma. The 2nd Technical Control Laboratory of the A.M. performs chemical-technological and environmental-ecological controls arranged by the Higher Authorities aimed at achieving safety in workplaces and flight safety.
