In 2019, 239 individuals entered the Specialist School to attend the 15th course for trainee NCOs. The attendees, coming from different departments of the Armed Force, were divided from the selection phase into the categories of “Operational Support”, “Logistical Support”, “Commissariat”, “Aeronautical Construction”, “Physics” and “Airspace Control”. With the 15th Course, the new training “path” for entry into the NCO corps began, which includes attending a common phase, as a trainee, lasting 13 weeks and a second “techno-professional” phase, lasting between 8 and 13 weeks, attended with the rank of Sergeant.
The Study Plan, in particular, provides for the study, application and learning of technical-professional, cultural, military, practical instruction and physical/sports activities, as required by the modern military, in order to develop the necessary basic knowledge, preparatory for subsequent specialisation/qualification courses or for deployment in the Armed Forces units.
The course's educational activities are conducted under the supervision of a teaching staff composed of military and civilian teachers/instructors, using a dedicated training network, state-of-the-art facilities, and the MOODLE (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) computer system, which allows for the effective organisation and delivery of the various training courses and their related exams. The 239 students join the 70 attendees of the 4th Permanent Service Enlisted Volunteers Course and the 10 military personnel from the Guardia di Finanza of the 5th Aircraft Maintainers Course, currently undergoing training at SSAM. For the new arrivals, joining the Specialist School represents the achievement of an important milestone at the end of the competitive selection phase and, at the same time, marked a moment of intense and engaging emotional depth. The Air Force Specialist School, commanded by Colonel Paolo Marco Felli, is responsible for the training of Specialists (Sergeants and Permanent Service Enlisted Volunteers), non-managerial staff of the Air Force interested in a professional retraining/qualification process, and personnel belonging to other Armed Forces or Police Forces as Aircraft Maintainers.
The Authority also provides logistical support to Air Force and Army personnel deployed in the “Clean Streets” and “Safe Streets” operations.
