The Commander of NATO Air Training Command Afghanistan greets the personnel of the Air Force stationed in Shindand
General Shepro, welcomed by Colonel Luca Vitali, Commander of the Italian Air Advisory Team, addressed words of praise to the Italian personnel, highlighting the important contribution made in training the leadership of the Afghan Stormo. Drawing up a year-long report on the NATC-A Command, General Shepro noted the progress made by the Afghan personnel of Shindand in conducting with ever greater professionalism and autonomy all the functions typical of a Stormo: aerial operations, logistics, administrative and financial management, infrastructure management, meteorological forecasts, firefighting, force protection and medical support. General Shepro stated that the air base of Shindand is now a concrete model to be followed by the emerging Afghan aviation.
At the conclusion of the visit, Colonel Vitali handed over the Department’s crest to General Shepro, who, in turn, in recognition of the many achievements of the Air Force advisors, presented the Italian Team with the Coin of excellence of the NATO Air Training Command – Afghanistan.
The general officer will be replaced in his current NATO post during the month of August 2013.
