On Friday 17th June, at the RACSA, the closing ceremony of the course that saw two Iraqi Officers and one Senegalese Officer qualify.
The new military Air Traffic Controllers have thus concluded a lengthy process, which began on 8th November 2010 and saw the achievement of the planned training objectives through exercises carried out on the tower simulator, where the participants were trained to handle complex Air Traffic situations, achieving a high level of management capability and an equally high level of reliability in all operational positions.
In particular, the Senegalese Officer, who comes from the Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli (Naples), where he completed his studies before continuing his professional qualification at RACSA, is the first military Air Traffic Controller of his Nation.
The two Iraqi officers, upon their return home, will instead be employed in the main control towers of Iraq's military airports.
Within Italy's cooperative activities with other nations, the support provided by the Air Force in the field of Air Traffic Control is of particular importance; in recent years, the number of foreign attendees participating in this type of course has been steadily increasing, both for attaining basic qualifications as an Aerodrome and Approach Controller, and for advanced Approach Radar and Area Radar courses.
