Major Antonio Vergallo succeeds Lieutenant Colonel Salvatore Trincone as Commander of the “Strali” group. The ceremony was presided over by Colonel Giovanni Balestri, Commander of the 36th Wing, in the presence of a large delegation of personnel from the wing. The XII Flight Group, together with the X Flight Group, carries out the mission of ensuring, jointly with the 4th Flight Group in Grosseto and the 37th Flight Group in Trapani, the Surveillance Service of the National and NATO Airspace. In his farewell speech, Lieutenant Colonel Trincone emphasized the XII Group’s constant professional growth since the arrival of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft in October 2007. During the period of command of Lieutenant Colonel Trincone, the XII Flight Group participated in a series of training activities, including the first exercise in Iceland “Northern Viking 2011”, as well as in recent operations within the framework of the “Unified Protector” operation. Major Vergallo, who in the last year held the position of Chief Operations Officer of the 36th Flight, comes from the Pegaso IV Course at the Air Force Academy.
