Tests were carried out at the Salento Airport Detachment on the performance of the trainer aircraft. During the activity, the operational limits of the aircraft during take-off, landing, and taxiing phases with crosswinds were identified. For the occasion, Alenia Aermacchi installed a dedicated mobile station necessary to record all flight telemetry and, with the contribution of the Detachment, prepared a suitable data processing centre, where engineers and test pilots, assisted by personnel from the Brindisi Unit, were able to analyse the flight data. The favourable geographical position, as well as the excellent layout of Brindisi Airport, equipped with two crosswind runways, allows for take-offs and landings in any wind condition. The Brindisi Detachment, under the Logistic Deputy Commander, provides support for the “peacekeeping” operations of the “United Nations Global Service Centre” (UNGSC) and humanitarian operations of the “World Food Programme” (WFP), ensuring, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, air navigation services for civilian aviation and assistance to transient aircraft belonging to NATO countries.
