The Military Ordinariate for Italy, Monsignor Vincenzo Pelvi, met the students of the Giulio Douhet Military Aviation School in Florence. In the introductory briefing, Colonel Icardi explained to His Excellency the mission and goals of the School in the presence of the permanent staff and faculty, stigmatizing the courage of the young people and the challenges they face in this School. Following this, the Military Ordinariate, addressing the present, said that he had met many young people during various visits to military academies and schools, and that the young people are the “beauty of the future”. His Excellency therefore reflected on the theme of the search for truth and the pedagogy of thought, highlighting how schools must lead young people to cultivate knowledge and lead them to the search for truth by combating “spiritual desertification”. The educators, for their part, have the task of teaching“the taste of the authentic joys of life through a targeted pedagogy that rejects idleness and addiction”Subsequently, Monsignor Pelvi met the students of the School alone, addressing them and emphasizing that “Relativism, giving value indiscriminately to everything, leads to moral or intellectual confusion, to a weakening of principles and to a loss of self-esteem. Young people, often left to themselves, must face a reality that exceeds their limits […], in the face of the emptiness that tempts you young people – continued the Military Ordinariate – You need to engage in serious initiatives that allow you to understand the value of life”. The Military Ordinariate wanted to hear the young students’ opinions on the current cultural and social context and, above all, their expectations. The students then told Monsignor Pelvi all their satisfactions, their daily challenges, their thoughts, but also their concerns for the future.
His Excellency, at the conclusion of the meeting, urged them to have confidence in themselves and to invest in their talents.
