The handover of duties to General Carmine Masiello, commander of the “Folgore” Brigade, took place at the Herat airport in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Defence Force, General Biagio Abrate “The results of the many sacrifices you have made – stated the Chief of Staff of the Defense – They are under everyone's eyes. By moving along the lines of security, development, and governance, you are allowing the Afghans to regain control of their territory.”With these words, General Abrate thanked the Italian military for what they are doing in the delicate Afghan operational theater. A few days later, on October 3, it was the turn of the handover ceremony at the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Summit, where the 132nd Artillery Regiment “Ariete”, commanded by Colonel Paolo Pomella, handed over command to the 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment, commanded by Colonel Giacinto Parrotta. The ceremony was attended by the new Commander of RC-W, the Governor of the Herat Province, Dr. Daud Saba, numerous Afghan civil and military authorities, and international representatives cooperating to stabilize and develop the Herat Province according to the needs expressed by the local community. Over the last six months, the PRT has launched over 50 infrastructure projects, including 16 schools, the creation of a facility dedicated to the study of forensic medicine, two police stations, and works aimed at improving the supply of water and sewage systems in the Herat province. The various initiatives aim to enable an increasingly large percentage of the population to benefit from the progress made in social services by the Afghan authorities.
