“What has been done in recent years can be summarised in dozens and dozens of aircraft restorations, in theprestigious exhibitions set up in major Italian cities, at numerous conferences, vernissages, literary presentations, air shows, the establishment of volunteer guides and various publications”, stated Lt. Col. Mondini. In thanking the personnel who supported him in his endeavours, Lt. Col. Mondini recalled “the presence of the President of the Republic on as many as two occasions at the Historical Museum, the visits of numerous international Heads of State, the excellent relations established with local, provincial and regional institutions, and the numerous internal and external initiatives undertaken to raise the profile of the institution in Italy and around the world”.
Lt Col Poletti said he was proud to take over the leadership of the organisation, demonstrating a strong passion for the aircraft that make up its history, considered “the backbone of our Air Force which remind us, when we have the privilege of admiring and touching them every day, that nothing of the glorious deeds of our predecessors has faded, and that the future of the Air Force is one with the memory of a wonderful past.
The Commander of the Vigna di Valle Military Airport, Colonel Alessandro Gresta, praised the various initiatives undertaken by Lieutenant Colonel Mondini and wished every success to the incoming Director of the prestigious museum site, which boasts a covered exhibition area of 12,000 square metres and welcomes around 65,000 visitors a year.
