The Commander of the AM Schools / 3rd Air Region visited the Frosinone Wing on the occasion of “Safety Day”. An important day for the Italian Air Force Helicopter Flight School, during which all personnel gathered with the aim of fostering that “flight safety mindset” which must characterise all the men and women of the Unit.
Welcomed by Colonel Elio Volpari, Commander of the Wing, General Cormio met the personnel of the Base, gathered for the occasion at the Non-Commissioned Officers' club for a briefing.
Subsequently, the General was escorted to the multimedia room to meet the specialists of the Aircraft Efficiency Group, who were engaged in a lecture on the human factor in maintenance. Finally, at the 208th Flight Group, he spent time with the Department's instructors and trainees from the Air Force, the Coast Guard, the Guardia di Finanza and the Army, currently engaged in the flight course, emphasising the role of the 72nd Wing as the body responsible for imparting, even to personnel from other Armed Forces and State Armed Corps, the correct notions of flight safety essential for tackling, with professionalism, an exciting yet at the same time intense and demanding activity.
The Safety Day, made even more important by the address of the Schools Commander, enabled all personnel of the Wing to take part in various activities related to Flight Safety, including the usual FOD walk, a fire-fighting and medical rescue demonstration, various informative briefings and, for aircrew, the use of the survival equipment provided in life jackets, practical helicopter extraction drills, and a meeting between pilots and controllers.
General Cormio expressed his particular appreciation for the work of the Wing which over the years has become a point of reference in the rotary-wing sector for all the Armed Forces and State Armed Corps.
The 72nd Wing of Frosinone, subordinate to the AM Schools Command / 3rd Air Region of Bari, is the Italian Air Force unit tasked with training helicopter pilots for all the Armed Forces and State Armed Corps. From 2000 to the present day, 948 trainees have been selected at the 72nd Wing, of whom 765 have earned their wings.
