Achieved milestone by AM-X fighters deployed in Herat in the Joint Air Task Force Task Group
“In recent times, requests for aerial reconnaissance of targets related to the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan have been increasing – said Lieutenant Colonel Davide Testa, Commander of the ‘Black Cats’ Task Group – a few days ago, for example, at the request of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat, we carried out an aerial reconnaissance of the progress of the works on a school.“ The more than 22,000 photographic products produced in flight and subsequently analyzed and distributed represent a valuable contribution in conducting operations and managing the resources deployed on the ground. The information ensures a greater understanding of the environment, supports the Commands in terms of prevention and security, and can dissuade insurgents from carrying out hostile actions. The AM-X fighter reconnaissance activity is particularly useful in the Afghan scenario, as it is able to operate effectively over long distances, despite the country’s complex topography, in day and night missions. The pilots and specialists come from the Air Force Flight Groups that are equipped with the AM-X aircraft, namely the 132nd and 103rd Flight Group of the 51st Istrana (Treviso) Squadron and the 13th and 101st Flight Group of the 32nd Amendola (Foggia) Squadron. The JATF operates within the Regional Command West, currently under the command of the Folgore Paratrooper Brigade, which is committed to ensuring security throughout the entire territory in the west of Afghanistan, in order to support the population and its security forces in the delicate transition process underway.
