On Friday 16th April, more than 5,000 people celebrated, alongside the men of the Cervia Department, the results achieved with the fighter jet.
The event coincided with the usual training activities of the National Aerobatic Patrol prior to the official start of the season. The Frecce Tricolori, despite adverse weather conditions, still carried out some flypasts.
At the end of a patrol flight, the pilots of the 23rd Flight Group showcased the two ‘Special Colour’ F-16s to over 5,000 guests, which had been specially prepared for the event by the Maintenance Group technicians. “We wanted to celebrate the achievements of both the Wing and the 23rd Flight Group with the friends who have always supported the activities of the Wing and the Group. I wanted this celebration day to mark the professionalism and pride of the men of the 5th Wing, who, right up to the last day of the Wing's existence, will undoubtedly confirm the prestige that has already consecrated this Wing in history.” With these words, Colonel Cianfanelli welcomed the numerous authorities in attendance.

The 5th Wing, along with the 37th Wing from Trapani operating F-16 fighter jets, the 4th Wing from Grosseto, and the 36th Wing from Gioia del Colle (Bari), equipped with Eurofighter fighter jets, ensures the surveillance of national airspace and the area of interest 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
