On Monday 16th August, an AB-212 helicopter from the 670th SAR Squadron of Decimomannu rescued a tourist who had suffered a stroke on board the cruise ship. The air rescue crew descended onto the ship using the winch and recovered the German citizen, along with a doctor present on board the ship, to immediately transport him to the Marino Hospital in Cagliari, where he arrived shortly before 8:00 PM.
The distress call from the ship “Aida Bella” was received by the Port Authority of Cagliari. The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (IMRCC), based in Rome, alerted the Air Force Operational Command of the Italian Air Force (COFA) in Poggio Renatico (FE), which immediately dispatched the helicopter on national standby at the military airport of Decimomannu (CA). This is the ninth actual rescue mission this year for the 670th Squadron of Decimomannu.
