On Tuesday 20 October, the handover ceremony with Colonel Giammarinaro took place in the presence of Brigadier General Castellano, Commander of Regional Command West. In his address, Colonel Cesari, who comes from the 3rd Division of the Logistics Command, expressed his enthusiasm for this new role: “It is a great honour for me to assume command of ITALFOR, to which I shall devote all my passion and the utmost commitment to the fulfilment of the mission.” General Castellano expressed his deep appreciation for the ability and generosity with which Colonel Giammarinaro had carried out not only his duties as Commander of ITALFOR but also those of Deputy Commander of RC-W. The ITALFOR component is tasked with assisting the Commander of RC-W in carrying out all duties and addressing issues of a purely national nature aimed at achieving the assigned objectives, with particular reference to the management of bases and logistical support for Italian personnel. Colonel Cesari, born in Rome in 1954, joined the Italian Air Force in 1974 as part of the 39th Reserve Officer Cadet Course. He transferred to Permanent Active Service in 1980 and, following his training at the Air Force Training School in Florence, served at the Air Force Specialist School in Macerata, where he specialised in the MSA Supply Service. He was then transferred to the 6th Air Force Central Depot in Fiumicino where, between 1975 and 1982, he held the posts of Head of the Stock Control Section, Head of the Supply Service and Head of the Material Movement and Storage Section. As part of the SILI project, he was transferred to the 4th Department of the Air Force General Staff. Following the establishment of the 6th TEIAV Department, he was transferred to the 3rd Office, where he served from 1984 to 1987. He was subsequently transferred to the 1st Department of the Air Force Logistics Inspectorate, where he held numerous posts until 1999. On 1 March 1999, he was assigned to the 3rd Division of the Logistics Command, where he served as Section Head in the 1st and 2nd Offices of the 2nd Department. Promoted to Colonel on 1 January 2004, he currently holds the post of Head of the 2nd Office for “Functional Area Automation and Weapon Systems”. At the Institute of Military Aeronautical Sciences in Florence, on behalf of the “Cesare Alfieri” Faculty of Political Science at the University of Florence, he taught “Business Organisation and Logistics: Module 2, Special Section – Logistics Organisation of the Armed Forces – Logistics in a Military Context” as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Sciences during the 2005–2006 academic year to Officer Cadets on the “Borea V” course and during the 2006 – 2007 to officers on the “Borea V” and “Centauro V” courses. He has been awarded the NATO Medal (Kosovo), the NATO Medal (Former Yugoslavia), the Mauritian Medal for 10 lustri of military service and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. He is married and has two daughters.
