On Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 October, the scientific conference on Neurology and Work Psychology was held at Palazzo Marini in Rome. Il convegno aperto dall’on. Antonio Mazzocchi, Questore della Camera dei Deputati, e dal Generale Ispettore Ottavio Sarlo, Direttore Generale della Sanità Militare, ha visto alternarsi Ufficiali medici delle Forza Armate e professori universitari, ed è stato strutturato nelle seguenti sezioni: neurobiologia del sonno, i disturbi del sonno, la fatica operazionalee gli aspetti medico-legali relativi ai disturbi del sonno ed allo stress da lavoro. Molti i temi trattati legati alla fatica e al sonno da quelli degli astronauti a quelli degli adolescenti sottoposti a stress operazionali o ad una mancanza di sonno, quale ad esempio quella dovuta all’utilizzo sino ad ora tarda di internet con conseguente mancanza di riposo che può dar luogo ad episodi di irritabilità. Il sonno è uno dei problemi della nostra epoca, infatti 25% della popolazione mondiale soffre d’insonnia, metà degli ictus avviene di notte, così come la maggior parte delle crisi epilettiche e crisi depressive. Il Servizio Sanitario del Comando Logistico dell’Aeronautica Militare nel 2007 ha avviato un percorso formativo e di ricerca nell’ambito delle neuroscienze, comprendendo tra le varie branche quella della neurobiologia e della psicologia del lavoro. Al convegno, quindi, si sono sviluppati i temi del sonno e della fatica, in considerazione che nel terzo millennio l’uomo si trova a dover affrontare, tra gli altri problemi, quello del mantenimento degli ideali ritmi circadiani.
