On Friday 9th September, the first charity run ‘Doing good with sport’ took place in Decimomannu, with around 250 military personnel participating to raise funds for the German association for the assistance of Sardinian thalassaemics.
At the end of the race, approximately 250 military personnel who took part met at the officers' mess garden for the handover of the funds raised.
Colonel Alfredo Nazzi, head of the Department, presented the cheque to the Italian representative of the association for the assistance of thalassaemia patients. The association, founded in 1978, is based in Germany and has a representation in Italy.
The association's aim is to support talassemic individuals in need and their families through material and financial assistance, subsidies for surgeries to be borne by patients, and funding for the provision of medical equipment. It also aims to handle administrative/logistical matters related to the ‘air bridge’ of blood between Germany and the San Gavino Monreale hospital for plasma donated by military and civilian personnel.
