The 49th Flight Safety Officer Qualification Course was organised and managed by the Higher Institute of Flight Safety (I.S.S.V.). For the first time, in addition to the theoretical phase, which included lessons on the relationship between Flight Safety and the world of journalism, attendees also had the opportunity to apply the communication principles and media techniques learned in the classroom through the simulation of television interviews conducted by a professional journalist. These lessons, delivered by personnel from the Public Information Office of the Directorate General for Communication, specifically addressed media relations management in the event of flight incidents.
In the second phase of the Course, theoretical activity continued with an in-depth study of various aspects concerning flight accident investigation, including legal ones, as well as a “Practical Investigation Module” (M.I.P.), carried out at Pratica di Mare airport (RM). During this Module, attendees were engaged in investigating the possible causes of accidents reconstructed in various “crash sites” created thanks to the contribution of the 14th Wing, the Flight Experimental Centre, and the Pratica di Mare Airport Command. The course concluded with some group exercises and the drafting, by the attendees, of dissertations on Flight Safety topics.
The value of the course was evidenced by the presence of distinguished speakers such as the President of the National Flight Safety Agency (A.N.S.V.), Prof. Bruno Franchi, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Minister of Defence, Air Brigadier General Luca Goretti, Prof. Andrea Montefusco, lecturer at SDA Bocconi in Milan, and the Director General of the Aero Club of Italy, General Giulio Cacciatore.
The concluding address by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Pasquale Preziosa, confirmed the high level of attention that the Air Force recognises for the founding values of Flight Safety and the training of those who work daily to achieve that ’operational safety“ which represents one of the main objectives of the Armed Force and all other organisations, civil and military, that carry out flight-related activities.
