During the visit, the Commander of the 2nd Division of the Logistics Command handed over the new Organic Order Tables and announced the change in hierarchical subordination of the detachment. General Molteni, accompanied by Colonel Vittorio Alfieri Manca, Head of the Resource Management Office, and Colonel Aldo Di Resta, Head of the Operational Logistics Support Office, was welcomed by Colonel Giambattista Degiuli, Commander of the detachment.
Subsequently, in the conference room, Colonel Degiuli briefly outlined the milestones the Department had achieved during his command under the 2nd Division, highlighting how, despite the limited resources available, the detachment had accomplished the objectives set. The Commander of the detachment then thanked General Molteni and the 2nd Division for the support received, indispensable for the accomplishment of the institutional mission. General Molteni, in turn, addressing the assembled personnel, stated:“Today is a special occasion because two events are taking place simultaneously: the delivery of the new Organic Orders Tables of the Detachment, strongly desired by the 2nd Division, and the imminent change of dependency of the same from the 2nd Division to the Deputy Logistic Commander. The new Tables, which involved a great deal of work on the part of the Division, were approved in a short time by the Air Force General Staff and are the appropriate recognition of the Detachment, which thus receives, in accordance with its real tasks, a rightful place within the Logistic Command and the Armed Forces. Therefore, it is appropriate to wish a splendid future to the personnel of the Detachment that has demonstrated, during these years of my Division’s Command, to be always ready, efficient and available to carry out its duties. I am convinced that everyone will continue to work with the same commitment, aware that they are an active part of the ongoing change process. Thank you again for everything.”.
The Commander of the 2nd Logistics Division, finally, visited the United Nations Global Service Center, which the Italian State has been hosting since 1997 within the detachment, where he was welcomed by Mr. Martin Peace, Head of Logistics Services.
The day ended with the delivery to General Molteni of a painting depicting the new badge of the detachment, hand-painted by Maestro Cosimo Giuliano, and the signing of the Honor Roll.
The Brindisi detachment provides support for the “peacekeeping” operations of the United Nations Logistics Base (UNLB) and the humanitarian operations of the World Food Programme (WFP), ensuring 24/7 technical and medical assistance to the aircraft of NATO countries passing through the airport. It also manages the control of commercial air traffic in transit at Brindisi airport. In 2011, the Air Traffic Control Service handled 22,000 movements, an increase of 3 % compared to the previous year, allowing the Brindisi airport to register over 2 million passengers in transit.
