Major Antonio Vivolo is the new Commander. During his speech, Major De Dionigi, after almost two years in Command, praised the excellent work of the 132nd Group personnel, who were employed in photographic reconnaissance operations abroad, within the Black Cats Task Group in Afghanistan, and in national contexts.
The event concluded, as is tradition, with the exchange of the “Capo” patch, a sign of continuity in the command of the 132nd.
The 132nd Wing is one of the most glorious Units of the Italian Air Force. It was established at the Littoria Base as the “132nd Autonomous Torpedo-Bomber Squadron” on 1st April 1942, under the command of then Captain Carlo Emanuele Buscaglia. The torpedo-bomber specialisation was entirely new, and the first torpedo attack was attempted against British ships anchored in the port of Alexandria in August 1940. To carry out a torpedo attack, it is necessary to fly at very low altitude and at close range to the targets, exposing oneself to the anti-aircraft fire from enemy ships. Despite these serious difficulties, the crews, on board the SM-79 Sparviero aircraft, successfully carried out numerous attacks on Allied naval formations and convoys in the Mediterranean throughout the Second World War.
