Handover of duties between Colonel Raffaele Faggiano and Colonel Mario Sciandra
The event, chaired by the Inspector General Vincenzo Panaro, Head of the Infrastructure Service of the A.M. Logistics Command, was also attended by the Commanders of the entities under the jurisdiction of the 2nd R.G.A.M.
In his farewell speech, Colonel Faggiano thanked everyone for the continued support that has enabled him to “to always operate at the highest level and to lead the 2nd Genio Department to heights of absolute excellence”But above all, he thanked the staff for what they did and how they did it, highlighting that every victory is “It becomes authentic only if achieved with honesty, loyalty, sacrifice, without shortcuts, tricks, and subterfuges”.
Colonel Mario Sciandra, in his inaugural speech, thanked the Authorities for the trust they had placed in him and emphasized that “The 2nd Department of Intelligence is a resource for the Armed Forces and for all the Entities and Departments that fall within its jurisdiction”that, in the current shortage of resources, must find in its professional patrimony the strength to “to research and propose technically and economically sustainable solutions that can optimize results in accordance with F.A. guidelines.”General Panaro concluded the ceremony by thanking the outgoing commander for “Your commitment, loyalty, transparency, and the great human and professional skills that you have unconditionally put at the service of the Department and the Italian Air Force”. He then asked the incoming commander to address the resource crisis “motivating and enhancing the professionalism and character of the staff, especially the younger ones, increasing the flexibility in the employment of their own employees”.
Colonel Mario Sciandra, a graduate in civil engineering with the Centauro IV course, was the head of the 105th DOLD (Ordinary Works Department) of Udine Campoformido, the 102nd DOLD of Ghedi, and the 103rd DOLD of Villafranca from 1990 to 2002. He then held various section chief positions at the Infrastructure Service of the Logistics Command and at the 4th Office of the 4th S.M.A. Department. He attended the X ISMI course at the CASD. Subsequently, transferred to Ciampino in 2009, he was head of Works Department and deputy commander of the 2nd Engineering Department. He participated in missions in Kosovo and in the former Yugoslavia.
The 2nd Engineering Department AM, under the responsibility of the Infrastructure Service of the AM Logistics Command, manages the studies, investigations, designs, procurement and execution of the works necessary to ensure the availability and efficiency of the infrastructures used by the Italian Air Force. The execution of the works is carried out through external contract or direct administration with the military and civilian personnel of the 8th Campanian Engineering Group. From the 2nd Engineering Department, in addition to the aforementioned Campanian Engineering Group, the Central Authority Office of the AM and the main geotechnical laboratory and material testing are also under its responsibility, as well as, in the outskirts, the Technical Service Detached Infrastructure of Pisa, Decimomannu, Pratica di Mare and Grosseto.
