An Agusta Westland AW109 helicopter of the Guardia di Finanza was forced to make an emergency landing at Brindisi Airport during the route phase. During the flight phase, the aircraft, belonging to the Air Section of the Guardia di Finanza of Bari, in contact with the Flight Information Center of Brindisi (FIC), declared an emergency due to a motor failure, requesting permission to land at the Air Force airport. All operations were carried out according to the established procedures, with the intervention of the medical staff and the Fire Department of the civil airport. The helicopter landed without further incidents.
While waiting for the technical interventions necessary for repairing the malfunction, the aircraft was parked in a parking lot with the support of personnel from the Salento detachment. The Italian Air Force, through the Brindisi detachment, supports the peacekeeping operations carried out by the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) and the humanitarian operations of the United Nations Humanitarian Response Base (UNHRD).
The Detachment also provides 24/7 air navigation services to civil aviation and assistance to aircraft passing through NATO countries.
