The 32nd Wing's remotely piloted aircraft surveillance activity continues in support of Operation “Mare Nostrum”.”
On the instruction of the Joint Operational Command of the “Mare Nostrum” task force, the Predator B directed its onboard sensors towards an area south of the island of Lampedusa, identifying a roughly 10-metre dinghy proceeding at slow speed with people on board, including several women and children. The vessel was observed for over two hours until two Italian Navy vessels, departing from the ship Foscari, intervened and provided initial assistance to the migrants on the dinghy.

The 32nd Wing, for the RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) component, has the mission to carry out operational, training, and technical activities for remotely piloted aircraft, acquiring and maintaining the capability to conduct reconnaissance, threat detection, and area of interest surveillance operations in accordance with the methods established by operational plans.
