A Falcon 50 of the 31st Ciampino Wing carried out three emergency medical transports in just under eleven hours. The first medical flight, requested by the Prefectural Administration of Brindisi from the Situation Room of the Air Force General Staff (SMA) in Rome, was carried out yesterday afternoon from Brindisi to Pisa. Deplaned from Ciampino at 16:20, the Air Force aircraft landed in Brindisi at around 17:20 and, after boarding the patient, departed at around 17:30 towards Pisa. At 18:45, the Falcon 50 landed at the airport of the Tuscan city, where an ambulance was waiting to transfer the patient to the local hospital. Meanwhile, a request from the Situation Room of the SMA had already arrived from the Prefectural Administration of Foggia for an air medical transport from Bari to Bergamo. Consequently, the Falcon 50 was sent directly from Pisa, where it took off at 19:25, to Bari, where the patient was boarded. After taking off from the Puglia city at approximately 20:40, the plane landed around 22:00 at Orio al Serio airport, from where the patient was transferred by ambulance to the Ospedali Riuniti Hospital in Bergamo. At 22:25, the Falcon 50 took off from Orio al Serio to return to its base in Ciampino, where it landed at 23:30. However, just twenty minutes later, the plane took off again for an emergency medical transport requested by the Brindisi Prefecture. The patient to be transported was boarded in the same Puglia city, from where the plane took off at around 1:05 with destination Bologna. At 2:15, the landing in the Felsina city, from where the patient was then transferred by ambulance to the Modena Policlinico. At 2:20, the Falcon 50 took off from Bologna for Ciampino, where it landed at 3:00. At the request of the competent state authorities, the Air Force provides emergency air medical transport for citizens in imminent life-threatening situations, for severely traumatized individuals and for organs for transplantation, as well as for individuals in other risk situations. This service is provided using aircraft from the 31st Stormo at Ciampino and the 46th Air Brigade at Pisa, as well as helicopters from the 15th Stormo at Cervia. The urgency that characterizes this type of activity requires a high level of readiness, which is maintained twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
