31/2025 - Italian Air Force: first emergency medical transport of a newborn from Cagliari to Milan Linate with the new G650 aircraft of the 31st Wing

The crew of the 31st Wing's G650 aircraft of the Italian Air Force transported the newborn and some family members from Cagliari airport to Milan Linate airport.

The urgent flight from the airport concluded this afternoon. Cagliari to that of London Heathrow carried out with the new aircraft G650 from the 31st Wing of the Air Force to transport a 5-day-old baby in imminent danger of death.

Having arrived at Cagliari Airport, the G650 He boarded the newborn from the Monserrato University Polyclinic “Duilio Casula”, accompanied by some family members, and immediately took off for Milan. After landing at the Lombard capital's airport, the group continued their journey to the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato Milanese. The G650 then returned to Ciampino, home of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force, to resume its operational readiness status.

The request for intervention was received from Cagliari Prefecture at the Air Force's Summit Situation Room Air Squadron Command of Milan, which immediately activated the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the Units that carries out operational readiness service for this type of mission and which has recently modernised its fleet with new G650 aircraft.

This is the first emergency transport for the G650 aircraft, which in recent weeks had already been used for the transport of organs and a medical team for a transplant.

Today's flight, as is usual for this type of activity, was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.

The Air Force Flying Squadrons are available to the public. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating even in complex weather conditions. They ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams, or ambulances.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, of 14th Practice Wing of Pratica di Mare, of 46th Air Brigade of Pisa from the helicopters of the 15th Air Wing of Cervia.
