Sergeant Paolo Pizzo is back on top of the world; the 2017 World Epée Champion title is his, just like in Catania in 2011. LEIPZIG (GER) 22-23/07/2017– From Catania to Leipzig 6 years have passed, but the Sergeant Paolo Pizzo, like a true champion, he never gave up and is back on top of the world. His impeccable race strategy, indomitable character and the heart of the Italian épée fencer allowed him to overcome, against great exponents of the discipline, sometimes at the very last touch, all the phases of the tournament, giving him a new great result to crown his sporting career. He is the new Men's Épée World Champion, as in the past in Catania, in a gesture that has now become a ritual, the Sergeant Paolo Pizzo, kisses the piste at the end of the 15-13 bout in the final against the Estonian Nikolai Novosjolov. The athlete from Italian Air Force Sports Centre, thus rightly enters the hall of fame of Italian fencing and the select circle of those who have won two world titles.
