The mission was carried out by an aircraft from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa

A C-130J aircraft from the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa took off early this morning to carry out an urgent humanitarian transport for two eight-month-old twins suffering from a serious illness. The mission was requested by the Prefecture of Naples to allow the young patients to reach the “Vittore Buzzi” Paediatric Hospital in Milan for specialist treatment.

The military crew boarded the plane, specially equipped for the mission, with an ambulance and the medical team from the “Luigi Vanvitelli” Hospital in Naples, the children's departure hospital. The mother of the two young children was also on board.

The C-130J took off from Pisa airbase at 07:30 local time, heading towards Naples Capodichino Airport where personnel from the Airport Command assisted with boarding operations for the patients, medical team, and ambulance.

The aircraft subsequently departed for Milan Linate, where the twins were handed over to the care of the designated children's hospital.

The mission concluded shortly before 1:00 PM, after which the aircraft returned to Pisa base.

This type of mission, which falls under the institutional duties of the Air Force, requires the readiness of the Armed Force's crews and aircraft to intervene promptly, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to save human lives or support the community in cases of urgency and necessity, such as for medical or humanitarian transport or organ transportation.
