LA TFA "NORTHERN ICE" HA RICEVUTO DALLA NATO LA CERTIFICAZIONE DELLA PIENA CAPACITÀ OPERATIVA PER L'AIR POLICING

Mercoledì 22 marzo, con il decollo immediato di due caccia intercettori Eurofighter italiani dall’aeroporto di Keflavik, la Task Force Air ha raggiunto gli obiettivi necessari al raggiungimento della certificazione della Full Operational Capability, ottenendo così dalla NATO la prontezza operativa per garantire la sicurezza dei cieli islandesi nell’ambito delle operazioni di Interim Air Policing. L’Aeronautica Militare italiana partecipa con continuità all’Interim Air Policing di Albania, a partire dal 2009, della Slovenia, dal 2004, alternandosi in questo servizio rispettivamente con la Grecia e con l’Ungheria, ed è già stata impegnata in Islanda nel giugno del 2013. L’Air Policing (AP) è una capacità di cui si è dotata la NATO a partire dalla metà degli anni cinquanta e consiste nell’integrazione in un unico sistema di difesa aerea e missilistico della NATO dei rispettivi e analoghi sistemi nazionali messi a disposizione dai paesi membri. L’attività di Air Policing è condotta sin dal tempo di pace e consiste nella continua sorveglianza e identificazione di tutte le violazioni all’integrità dello spazio aereo NATO alle quali si fa fronte prendendo le appropriate azioni utili a contrastarle, come ad esempio il decollo rapido di velivoli caccia intercettori, il così detto scramble. L’AP è svolta nell’ambito dell’area di responsabilità del Comando Operativo Alleato della NATO (Allied Command Operations – ACO) di stanza a Bruxelles e viene coordinato dal Quartier Generale del Comando Aereo Alleato (Headquarters Allied Air Command) di Ramstein (GER).
