The initiative of the City of Milan, aimed at eliminating gender stereotypes in the professional world, saw the participation of Ms. Federica M., a hunter pilot from the 4th Squadron of Grosseto. On Tuesday 10 April, the initiative “STEMintheCity” was held at the “Alla Scala” Theatre in Milan. The initiative was promoted by the City of Milan with the aim of eliminating gender stereotypes according to which the technological and scientific fields in general are considered areas of competence exclusively for men. The Deputy Mayor of Milan, Dr. Anna Scavuzzo, the Councilor for Digital Transformation and Civic Services, Dr. Roberta Cocco, and numerous students from Milan’s schools and universities were present in the auditorium. The meeting was attended by various speakers, representatives of the scientific, technological, and engineering world, considered among the country’s top experts.
In this context, the presence of the Air Force was requested to participate with its expertise in the female sector.
Major Federica M., pilot of the Eurofighter fighter aircraft, assigned to the 4th Squadron in Grosseto, took part in the event.
The pilot, who has recently returned from Estonia where the Air Force has secured the defense of airspace within the framework of a NATO AirPolicing mission with its own fighter aircraft, recounted his experience, from the sacrifices made to join the Armed Forces to the rewarding professional experiences, commenting: “The Air Force is like a second family for me, where men and women work together and cohesively in a constant and daily teamwork, to ensure security, in the service of the community.”.
Concluding his speech, Maggioreha encouraged the young female students present in the room to always look up, to strive to achieve the goals set, with commitment, study, and passion to follow their dreams.
