The cycling sporting event was organized by the Cyclist Group “Cicloclub Fiano Romano” in coordination with the Air Force Command. On September 9, 2018, the National A.M. Road Cycling Race was held in the municipality of Fiano Romano, organized by the Air Force Command of Rome as part of the 5th edition of the “Gran Fondo della Valle del Tevere” programmed by the Cyclist Group “Cicloclub Fiano Romano”.
Two types of route were planned for the event:
– Gran Fondo route of 120 km;
– Middle Distance course of 88 km;
On the occasion of this significant event, about 600 cyclists set off, including 25 amateur cyclists from various agencies/departments of the Air Force.
Among the personnel belonging to the Armed Forces, in the long route, Lieutenant Colonel Generoso POLESE of the Air Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico came in first place, while First Marshal Emanuele CIARAGLIA of the 60th Guidonia Squadron came in first place in the middle route.
The race was started by the Mayor of Fiano Romano, Mr. Ottorino Ferilli.
After the race, the awards ceremony was held at the Palazzetto dello Sport, in the presence of the staff of the Ciclo Club Fiano Romano and the sponsors.
The “Comando Aeronautica Militare Roma” (COMAER) was established on March 1st 1999, a date that marks the transition for the Air Force from a “territorial” structure to a “functional” one. The COMAER provides technical, logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces’ agencies and inter-service agencies located in the Palazzo Aeronautica area, the Centocelle airport base, including, recently, the General Secretariat of the Defence, and the Vigna di Valle – Centro Storiografico e Sportivo A.M. Airport Command. It also ensures territorial functions and links with the Agencies and Administrations present in the area of the Capital and performs the Aeronautical Guard functions provided for by the sector-specific regulations.
