Under the auspices of the Volunteer Nursing Cadets of the Italian Red Cross (CRI) in Messina. Between 15 and 20 June, personnel from the Messina Aeronautical Military Meteorological Post (AM) delivered meteorology lessons to the Volunteer Nursing Cadets (II.VV.) of the Italian Red Cross Corps (CRI) in the same city, as part of their academic year 2018 training. The activity, requested by the Provincial Inspectorate of the CRI, took place at the premises of the Messina Military Department of Legal Medicine (DMML). In this regard, the AM speakers, also with the aid of illustrative images and videos, touched upon how to interpret the information available on the website www.meteoam.it and illustrated the various stages from data detection to transmission for the collection of meteorological information to their own Armed Force and to other military and civil institutions, in order to ensure constant flight assistance as well as appropriate support for the nation's economic and social activities. “Although the course was focused on nursing subjects, the activity with the Air Force aroused great curiosity and involvement among the cadets.” These were the words of the Inspector of II.VV. CRI Antonella Carnazza who, at the end of the lessons, affectionately thanked the Armed Force personnel for their fruitful support. Similar words of appreciation were also received from Colonel Doctor of the Army Francesco Rizzo, Director of the DMML.
The Head of the Messina Teleport, Chief Marshal Giovanni Capodivento, while thanking the organisers for the requested contribution from the Air Force, stressed that “this positive feedback serves as an encouragement to keep improving. Knowing that we have conveyed our interest in what we do, always in the interest of the citizen, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and without interruption, gives us great satisfaction.”
The Messina Meteorological Post is a Branch of the Sigonella Aeroporto Command, tasked with contributing to the Meteorological Service provided by the Aeronautica Militare (AM). This falls within the institutional functions that the Armed Force ensures for the country's security system, representing it within Europe and worldwide at the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) based in Geneva.
