From Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th March, the Italian Air Force took part in the fourth edition of the event at the Veronafiere exhibition centre LetExpo 2025, the benchmark trade fair for transport, logistics, business services and sustainability. A now well-established event for the Defence General Staff, within which the Air Force, with assets from the 3rd Wing of Villafranca, highlighted the peculiarities of the military logistics and the technological evolution of the Armed Force's projection logistics.
Numerous themed conferences are scheduled during the four-day trade fair event. Among the speakers, to discuss Military Logistics, is the Air Vice Marshal Luca Capasso, Head of the 4th Department of the Defence General Staff, and the Brigadier General Massimo Cicerone, Commander of the High Command Support Unit and Head of Support Services for the Logistics Command.
As part of LetExpo, as part of projection logistics, the 3rd Wing displayed the special purpose vehicle known as the “MPACR-Stratevac”, equipped with an aerial platform for aircraft rescue, along with personnel and assets of the F.A.R.P. capability (Forward Arming and Refuelling Point, a specific set-up of the Air Operations Logistics Support to increase effectiveness in the conduct of Special Operations, ensuring the availability of fuel and equipment even in isolated areas and logistically complex contexts. Among the other devices on display, an LD3-M1 hospital waste treatment module, an easily transportable container used for the treatment of potentially infectious hospital waste; the AQUA SOL Module, a plant installed inside a transportable container to make brackish and salt water potable; and a wastewater pre-treatment plant for field installations, capable of purifying water by removing unwanted substances.
The commitment of the 3rd Wing is aimed at promoting an increasingly sustainable development of intermodal transport and an increasingly innovative growth of integrated logistics, thanks to the assets “expeditionary”provided. The Verona-based organisation is, in fact, capable of projecting and redeploying field equipment and command and control structures, both in Italy and abroad, in support of national interests and the community, including in emergency situations and with respect for the environment in which it is called upon to operate.
Technological evolution, over the various years of activity in the national and international fields, has allowed the 3rd Wing and the Italian Air Force to express a capability of Projection logistics keeping pace with the times by acting as an “initial strategic facilitator”. This enables the Armed Force to project Operational Support and Logistic Support, both in Italy and abroad, during the very early stages of deployment as well as in the setup and consolidation phase of supports, whilst simultaneously placing an ever-greater focus on environmental protection and the sustainability of the resources used.
