On Thursday 29 November, Chief Inspector General Basilio Di Martino, Head of the Air Force Engineering Corps and Director of the Directorate of Aeronautical Armaments and Airworthiness (ARMAEREO), wished to gain a deeper understanding of the main activities of the 3rd Engineering Department in Bari Palese.
Upon arrival at the military airport, after being welcomed by Colonel Giuseppe Russi, Commander of the Engineering Department, he proceeded to the briefing room where he attended an illustrative presentation on the main activities of the 3rd Engineering Department concerning maintenance and enhancement works of the Armed Force's operational and logistical infrastructure, as well as infrastructural interventions completed and in progress, carried out either by sub-contracting to a firm or through “direct administration” with resources and personnel from the 16th Field Engineering Group and the relevant Detached Technical Services (S.T.D.I.).
During the presentation, support provided to the Civil Protection was also highlighted, in the event of serious disasters or extreme weather conditions (snow emergencies), and to other State Administrations, such as the recent works carried out at the Asylum Seekers Reception Centre (C.A.R.A.) in Bari-Palese on behalf of the Prefecture of Bari. The visit continued with a tour of the 16th Field Engineer Group where he was able to meet the personnel and thank them for the welcome received, expressing appreciation for the professionalism demonstrated by the entire Department in the various and complex activities of the infrastructure sector. The day concluded with the traditional exchange of crests between Gen. Di Martino and Col. Russi and the symbolic handover of a miniature special vehicle by Lt. Col.
