The research activity concluded successfully thanks to synergy with the CNSAS. On Sunday 5 August, an HH-139 helicopter from the 83rd CSAR Group (Combat Search and Rescue) of the 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force based in Cervia (RA) took off to search for a missing 51-year-old man on the Asiago plateau (VI). After receiving orders from the operations room of the Air Operations Command (COA) in Poggio Renatico (FE), responsible for activating the Air Force's search and rescue service, following a request received from the CNSAS (Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico) of Veneto, the helicopter took off at approximately 09:20 to reach the ’Val Formica“ refuge on the Asiago plateau. There, it picked up some CNSAS operators for a joint search for the missing person. The man was found at approximately 12:30, thanks to the teamwork of the Cervia crew and the CNSAS rescue team on board.
The 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force guarantees 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the search and rescue of aircrews in distress, also contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in mountains, the urgent medical transport of patients in life-threatening conditions, and the rescue of seriously injured individuals.
