The Aeronautical Academy and the meteorological post in Messina are opening their doors for the event organized by the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI). The Air Force has joined in by opening two sites, from Friday 23 March to Sunday 25 March, to the “FAI Spring Days”. The Aeronautical Academy in Pozzuoli was one of the 80 sites open to the public in Campania, while in Sicily the meteorological post in Messina opened its doors being one of the little-known monuments worthy of general attention. At the Academy, high school students from Naples and the surrounding area, specially trained in recent months, accompanied the large audience on a journey rich in fascination for history, traditions, and anecdotes from everyday life. The Simulator Hall has been particularly successful with the SF 260-EA aircraft simulator and the Twin Astir glider, as well as the replica of the AMX fighter aircraft, the Engine Hall and the Wind Gallery, in addition to the historical corridors with the pennants of the five generations of academic courses and the charm of the history of flight through them. The opening of the Sicilian Teleposto was an opportunity for students and the public to interact with the AM professionals and to make the national meteorological service better known, one of those daily activities that the Armed Forces always ensure in the service of the Community and the institutions. All moments of personal and collective knowledge were supported by volunteers from FAI and by apprentice ciceroni students. The activities of the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund), in line with its mission, are carried out in three areas: the protection of artistic and natural sites; raising awareness among people about the value of the landscape heritage and monumental sites; and active mobilization to protect at-risk landscapes.
