The Experimental Flight Department (RSV) has concluded an intense activity of Supplemental Test on the ground and in flight on the CAEW aircraft at Pratica di Mare Airport on Friday 22 June. The Experimental Flight Department, with the formal issuance of the technical documentation regarding the ground and flight tests carried out on the second CAEW G550 aircraft (Conformal Airborne Early Warning), has concluded the procedure foreseen under the contractual framework of the Supplemental Test campaign, totaling more than 2000 man-hours of engineering and more than 30 hours of test flights on CAEW and Eurofighter assets. The second CAEW aircraft was officially delivered to the 71st Group of the 14th Flight at the end of 2017, following the successful completion of a first acceptance test cycle carried out by an integrated team of the RSV and the 14th Flight in support of the DAAA (Direction of Aeronautics Armaments and Aeronavigability). The Supplemental Tests conducted at Pratica di Mare Airport allowed for the detailed testing of the operation of the very important mission subsystems specific to the new configuration. The 5 intense weeks of testing saw the involvement of dozens of professionals from the Air Force from various Departments. In particular, the excellent result was achieved within the planned time frame thanks to the important joint support from personnel from 14th Flight, Air Operations Command, 17th Flight, 16th Flight, 4th Flight, ReGISCC (Reparto Gestione ed Innovazione Sistemi di Comando e Controllo) and the Pratica di Mare Airport Command. The tests carried out confirmed that the G550 CAEW (Conformal Airborne Early Warning) represents an important capability, both for national defense and in off-site operations. The capabilities of the system enable information superiority in the monitored area, representing a fundamental strategic resource for air, land and naval forces involved in both military and interagency operations.
