National Exercise of the 1st Special Operations Air Brigade “TENDE SCAGLIA 2018” concluded on Wednesday, February 28, at the 9th Stormtrooper Air Base of Grazzanise (CE). The second phase of the “TENDE SCAGLIA 2018”, called “Cavallino Rampante”, the National Exercise of the Italian Air Force organized by the 1st Special Operations Air Brigade (B.A.O.S.), commanded by Air Division General Gianpaolo Miniscalco, concluded. The Caserta air base, commanded by Colonel Pasquale Di Palma, in addition to providing HH212 aircraft to the 21st Group and Air Riflemen, also served as the “Host Base” for this “2nd SOF Integration Week”, providing logistical and operational support to the exercise. The primary purpose of the training activity was to consolidate the integration capabilities acquired by the units of the Special Operations sector of the Italian Air Force, belonging to the 1st B.A.O.S. This is added to the objective of raising the level of training of personnel in Operational Logistics so that the best overall results can be achieved in terms of timeliness, efficiency and effectiveness of intervention, for all operations in which the Armed Forces can be called upon to intervene, both on national territory and in military operations abroad. The Tende Scaglia 2018 also allowed to test once again the fundamental components of Combat Support and Combat Service Support (operational projection logistics). The training activity, held in its executive part from February 12 to 28, was divided into three phases: a first phase of “Pre-deployment” from February 12 to 16 during which all the preparations and technical-logistical activities were carried out; a second phase called “Livex” from February 19 to 23 during which the actual execution of the scenarios with the use of assets and personnel in flight and on the ground missions, day and night, took place. Finally, the “Re-deployment” phase from February 26 to 28 during which the actions to restore the training areas for their normal use were carried out. For the operational activity, the Air Force has made available operational assets, both aircraft (two HH212 ICOs, one HH-101) that have carried out 13 sorties, and ground forces (Incorruptors, STOS operators, Air Riflemen and canine operators) from the 1st BAOS of Cervia, the 3rd, 9th, 15th, 16th and 17th Storms and the Air Force Canine Center.
