Has it been renewed?’Technical collaboration agreement Treason Airports of Rome (ADR) and the’Italian Air Force, aiming to strengthen synergy in air traffic management at Rome airport Ciampino. The signing of the agreement took place in the presence of Air Marshal Michele Oballa, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Logistics Command, between the Colonel Marco Angori, Commander of the 31st Wing e The Accountable Manager in ADR, Eng. Marco Buccella, head of Ciampino Airport.
The renewal of the agreement's main objective is to optimise the flow of air traffic at the Roman airport, while simultaneously guaranteeing the continuity of strategically important services. Ciampino Airport is, in fact, home to the aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force, responsible for missions Urgent and humanitarian health transport, as well as the activity of State transport. Urgent medical transport is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to respond promptly to medical emergencies, organ transfers, and critically ill patients. To ensure this uninterrupted operation, the Italian Air Force requires constant and coordinated support from ADR, an essential requirement that this agreement will continue to guarantee, despite the ongoing growth in commercial traffic at the airport. Furthermore, the agreement will ensure the full efficiency in the movement of high-ranking State and Government officials, contributing to the security and speed of their travel, as well as the transit of foreign dignitaries on official visits to Italy.
This renewed technical agreement represents a continuity in historic collaboration between the ADR and the Italian Air Force, combining civil and military expertise. As highlighted by General Michele Oballa, “the agreement demonstrates the ability of two important entities to work together for the good of the community, ensuring a continuous and impeccable service on a strategic infrastructure for our country.”.
Thanks to this synergy, the benefits will also be tangible for the Transit passengers, with smoother air traffic management, improved operational efficiency, and increased speed in essential services. Ciampino Airport and the Italian Air Force, through the 31st Wing, thus confirm the airport's role as a vital hub for missions of national and international interest, as well as diplomatic relations.
The 31st Wing is based at Ciampino Airport. The Wing carries out air transport activities to meet the mobility needs of senior State and Government officials and Military leaders, for urgent medical transport, and for humanitarian reasons concerning patients in imminent danger of death, medical teams, transplant organs, and interventions in favour of citizens in situations of risk. Considering the specific nature of the tasks assigned, the 31st Wing reports to the Air Squad Command, via the Mobility and Support Forces Command and the State and Government Flight Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which exercises operational control of the State Fleet through the Apex Situations Room responsible for coordinating all air transport activities for the indicated needs.
